Email to Ansible re: Teleduex
Dave,

As far as everyone involved with the original Year of the Teledu is concerned, Teleduex is not happening. Though as Teleduex was something entirely separate, I cannot be 100% sure as I haven't heard anything from the person concerned either. I believe the person who wanted to run Teleduex may have bitten off more than they can chew and / or had some personal problems.

Year of the Teledu offered some funds to Teleduex but nothing has been handed over. This plus the complete lack of communication tells me the event is dead and has been for sometime. I had not realised that you were listing the event otherwise I would of contacted you sooner.

Yours

Perfect Day (Of The Dead)
Its Zombiecon this weekend!

As well as the Night of the Living Teledu programme item (2pm Saturday) my other plan for the weekend involves lots zombies, a video camera and some lip syncing.

In short, if at any point during the weekend you are dressed as a zombie I want you to mime along to Lou Reed. I will be editing it over the weekend so hopefully by Sunday a rough cut will be assembled.

However I need help.

Does anyone have a MP3 of the BBC version of Perfect Day?

I have the Lou Reed version but I really want the Beeb version. Alternatively, can anyone extract it from the YouTube vid?

Teledu in Exile
Teledu is dead, but yet it still lives. Which is why it will be at Zombiecon.

Zombiecon is being run by Stef & James and even if you have no interest in zombies, gore or horror it will be a fun weekend. S&J have a great track record of running events that challenge your expectations of an SF con and they often challenge your understanding of commonsense and health & safety.

Teledu will running a programme item on the Saturday. Jess & I haven't finished getting drunk finalised the details of what it will be but expect something along the lines of the cooperative games we did to promote Teledu. It may involve zombies and is provisionally entitled "Night of the Living Teledus".

I'm also planning to do something more ad-hoc during the weekend involving a video camera, zombies, music and lip syncing. If you have any experience of video editing and a suitable laptop, I would like to hear from you.

If you haven't joined Zombiecon, do it now because no one parties like the living dead.

Match It for Pratchett

I've knocked up this icon for the Match It For Pratchett drive. Please use it to encourage your friends to donate or to show off that you have donated. Alternatively you can buy it on a t-shirt with all the profits ($10) going to Alzheimer's research.

If you don't know what this is all about, read this:

Terry Pratchett, author of the Discworld novels, has been diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer's. In response he has donated half a million pounds (approx $1 million) to Alzheimer's research and appeared on TV highlighting the low levels of research funding it receives. His readers and Science Fiction and Fantasy Fans from around the world are helping to match Terry's donation. Buy the T-Shirt and all the profits (roughly $10) will go to Alzheimer's Research or donate directly.

Please pass on this icon and t-shirt as far and as wide as possible.

Teledeux! (Cross-posted a bit)
Some among you may well remember last summer. Some among you may remember the crippling stress that was yearoftheteledu, and some among you may remember how many times since then I've cried "Never again! Never again!"

Some of you may also remember two facts: one is that it was a damn good con, and the other is that "Never again!" usually means "Not for a bit!"

Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you teledeux. Teledeux is to be a one-day event held in London, chaired by me and attended by as many people as I can possibly persuade to turn up. This idea was conceived approximately an hour ago, but I've already had the nod from tregenza, and I suspect I'll get all the leftover money from yearoftheteledu.

Come on over to teledeux. I'll get the ball rolling ASAP.

Money
Teledu still has some money left in its bank accounts, approximately £300.

The Officers are looking for a good way to dispose of this money. My original plan was to organise some kind of Teledu in Exile or Floating Teledu (as in a floating card game, not a blimp) for this years Eastercon. However I am not going to Eastercon this year so this doesn't seem likely.

The Officers have vaguely discussed various ideas of what could happen to it including but not limited to:

* Passed on to a Teledu II or similar

* Donation to World Wildlife Fund or a badger related charity

* Donation to one or more Fan Funds

* A big, blow out party for the Officers

If you have other ideas, suggests or simply want the money for yourself then please comment below. In the spirit of Teledu, we are willing to hand the money over to anyone with a half-decent plan and plenty of enthusiasm.

Chris

P.S. I accidentally posted this to my own LJ rather than here and some interesting discussions have already started.

Teledu - On The Daily Mammal

This fine Teledu was drawn by Jennifer from The Daily Mammal blog. She dedicated it me and Croydon Fandom, which by extension includes all of the Teledudes.

Please show your gratitude by visiting her site and leaving a comment.

Author Talks and discussions on all things Zombie, Undead-related, or just downright … weird.

We also hope to have Zombie short films shown and discussed with film directors and Zombie experts!

There's no such thing as a new idea
From our expert on fannish history:

'Lexicon is another new one: Wigston Stage Hotel, Leicester, 28-31 May 1982, GoH Bob Shaw, £8 att to 43 Station Rd, Kirby Muxloe, Leicester LE9 9EL.' Ansible 22

Apparently this was monumentally expensive at the time.

No mention of space-hoppers though.

But Teledu may still have been the first convention at the Stage, because he goes on to inform me:

I've since discovered that it never actually took place:
'Lexicon (28-31 May) never happened, we hear; the hotel refused to go
ahead owing to lack of advance memberships....' (Ansible #26)

Now that I've finally sent paper copies of the two Fanzines of the Teledu to the Nova Award Administrator, they're listed on the Nova awards site. If you read fanzines and you're going to Novacon, then please make an effort to vote for the best fanzines, fan artists and fan writers in the Nova Awards.

What Now: Part Deux
The general consensus following last weeks discussion was that:

* The domain, YearOfTheTeledu.org, will be renewed for a number of years

* The Wiki will be frozen once after some suitable tiding up (e.g. changing the front page to reflect that the event has happen)

Alex has kindly offered to keep hosting the Wiki and Teledu will be making a modest donation to help with his running costs.

However we need a couple of volunteers to oversee the Wiki. This will involve tiding things up and then acting as the point of contact for the domain registration and also as a contact for Alex. By default they will also become keepers of the Year of the Teledu name so in a few years time, when the domain expires, they will need to decide what then happens. However I doubt all this adds up to more than a couple of hours work a year.

If you would like volunteer, please comment below.
